Teachers

I am excited to be teaching 1st grade at Riverside Prep. I taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade in Barstow Unified School District. I received my BA and Multiple Subject Credential from California State University San Bernardino. I am currently working on my Masters in curriculum development and instruction at Cal State University San Bernardino. I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.

This is Mrs. Barefield’s first year at Riverside Prep, and she is excited to be here teaching 1st grade! Prior to coming here, she has had experience teaching 1st , 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade for the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
Mrs. Barefield received both her B.A. degree in Liberal Studies and her Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential through Cal State San Bernardino. She is currently working on her Masters of Education in Elementary Reading and Literacy. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and watching movies.

This is Mrs. Chacon’s fourth year at Riverside Prep. She is teaching Kindergarten and absolutely loves it. She is a three-time graduate at Chapman University. She has received her Bachelors Degree and two Masters Degrees with the last one being a Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration. She holds a clear multiple-subject credential, and a clear level II education specialist credential in Special Education. She is also in her 2nd year of the Doctorate Program at Pioneer University where she anxiously awaits her graduation in 2012.

She loves her team of six Kindergarten teachers and is excited to learn from each of them everyday as well as the many lessons she learns from her students in room 17 known as the Happy Place!

Mrs. Collier is one of the 2nd Grade teachers. She is in his first year atRiverside Prep. She taught Kindergarten in Apple Valley last year.She received his B.A. in Family and Consumer Science from Utah StateUniversity and her M.A. in Elementary Education, along with her TeachingCredential, from the University of Phoenix. Currently, she is in the DoctoralProgram at Pioneer University.
In her free time, Mr. Collier enjoys spending time with herfamily, visiting her home country of Finland, and reading and walking.

Ms. Coulter is one of the newest teachers to Riverside Preparatory this year. She is excited to be teaching second grade, which is her favorite grade. Ms. Coulter has wanted to be a teacher since she was in fourth grade and loves every minute of teaching. Ms. Coulter comes to Riverside Prep with experience in second and fifth grades in both Redlands and San Bernardino City Unified School Districts. Ms. Coulter received her Bachelors in psychology and teaching credential from the University of Redlands. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her Himalayan cat named CoCo.

Amber Devers is eager and excited to be here at Riverside Prep, teaching your Second Graders! She received her Multiple Subject and Single Subject teaching credentials from the University of Redlands in 2007. She taught fourth grade in Rialto, and Middle School English and Drama for two years in Hesperia. She encourages creativity, physical activity, and healthy habits in her classroom. She is happily married and has two daughters.

Mrs. Evans is in her first year here at Riverside Prep, but this is her 6th year teaching. Prior to coming to Riverside Prep, she taught 3rd grade for five years in Barstow. She graduated from BYU-Idaho and is currently working on her Masters of Education through Pioneer University. She is CLAD and GATE certified. In her free time she enjoys reading a good book, baking, traveling and blogging. She is excited to be a part of Riverside Prep!

This is Mrs. Hancock’s first year at Riverside Prep. She is a 3rd grade teacher.
Mrs. Hancock has taught as substitute teacher for three years in the Etiwanda
and Covina Valley school districts. She received her Bachelor degree from
Cal Poly and continued her education there for her Multiple Subject and Single
Subject credentials. She has just recently received her Masters in Education.
Mrs. Hancock lives down the hill with her husband and two boys. In her spare
time she likes hanging out with her family, shopping, and reading.

Miss Harmes is new to Riverside Prep and is currently teaching 3rd grade. She has previously taught as a substitute teacher in the Glendora Unified School District. Miss Harmes received her Bachelor's degree from Azusa Pacific University and continued to receive her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She is currently finishing her Master's degree at Azusa Pacific University. Miss Harmes has lived most of her life in the High Desert and attended primary and secondary school in Apple Valley. Miss Harmes spends most of her spare time with her fiance, family, and friends. She is really excited to be teaching at Riverside Prep!

Mrs. Hidalgo has been a High Desert Resident since 1999. She was in the U.S. Navy for 11 years, and her last duty station was Barstow, CA at the MCLB medical clinic. She and her family have lived in Silver Lakes since 2000. She has three children and all of them attend Riverside Prep. Her oldest is a senior this year, and the other two are in 9th and 6th grade.

This is Mrs. Hidalgo’s fourth year teaching in the Oro Grande School District. She has taught first, second, and fourth grades, as well as teaching one year at Mojave River Academy’s independent study program. She is very excited to be back in first grade and is looking forward to an exciting year.

Mrs. Anna Hill is currently teaching Kindergarten at Riverside Preparatory and is in her 5th year with the Oro Grande School District. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences from Chapman University followed by her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She joined the Oro Grande School District in 2003 teaching first grade and after a one year hiatus, she returned to Oro Grande to teach Kindergarten. Kindergarten is her favorite! Anna believes that every day is a fresh new day that is full of opportunity for every student to learn.

Mrs. Kearney began playing flute in her elementary school band. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University, where she studied music and elementary education. After graduating, she was recruited by the Jurupa Unified School District and came to California where she taught fourth grade for three years. After taking some time off to be at home with her children, Mrs. Kearney returned to teaching last year and taught sixth grade Language Arts and History at Wells Middle School in Riverside. She also began a Master’s program in Reading and Language Arts at CSUSB. By next year she will have completed this program and will hold a Reading Credential in addition to her Multiple Subject Credential. She now lives in Apple Valley with her husband, three sons and two dogs. Mrs. Kearney has recently joined the Riverside Prep team and is extremely excited to teach General Music and Keyboard!

Annie MacKay has lived in the high desert for over 20 years and attended local schools including Victor Valley College.  She went to California State University San Bernardino to teach Kindergarten and realized that she has a passion for Art, so she switched to Art Education.  She is currently attending Azusa Pacific University to finish her Multiple Subject teaching credential and her Masters Degree in Digital Teaching and Learning. 
Teaching Art here at Riverside Prep combines her two favorite things: Art and Kids!
Annie and her husband Thomas live in Victorville with their sons Owen and Noah.  She loves to paint and create things and looks forward to working with all the students at Riverside Prep this year :)

Mrs. Julie O'Dwyer is very happy and excited to be teaching second grade this year at Riverside Prep.   This is her 6th year teaching with the Oro Grande School District. She has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades and did her student teaching in Kindergarten.  Prior to teaching here at Riverside Prep. she taught as a substitute teacher for 6 years for the Victor Elementary and High School Districts.  She received her Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University of San Bernardino as well as her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She upgraded her credential to a Clear Credential in 2008 and is CLAD certified.  Mrs. O'Dwyer is currently working on her Master's Degree in Education at Walden University.  She has been a High Desert resident since 1986 and is happily married.  She is a very proud parent of three wonderful adult children and enjoys family time and traveling.  She says that besides being a mom, teaching is her biggest joy in life.

Mrs. Rasmussen is teaching Kindergarten this year at Riverside Prep. She earned her Bachelors Degree from University of LaVerne in Business Administration. She attended University of Redlands and earned her multiple subject teaching credential. When Mrs. Rasmussen isn’t teaching she is involved with the youth in her church and likes spending time with her family, scrap booking, and burning calories at the gym.

This is Mrs. Russell’s first year at Riverside Prep. She has been teaching for five years in the Fontana Unified School District. She started out teaching Spanish at Fontana High School and then moved to the elementary level. She spent the last two year teaching sixth grade intervention. This is her first year in kindergarten and she is absolutely loving it!
Mrs. Russell earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Cal State San Bernardino and her multiple subject teaching credential from Azusa Pacific University. She is completing her single subject credential and her master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University. When Mrs. Russell is not busy with her kinders, she enjoys going to the river and baking. She is looking forward to a fun and exciting first year here at Riverside Prep.

Mrs. Heidi Smith has lived in the High Desert her entire life. After graduating high school, Mrs. Smith continued her education at California State University, San Bernardino where she received her Bachelor’s of Art degree with an emphasis in painting. In an effort to further her education, Mrs. Smith obtained her credential from Chapman University. When she is not teaching, she enjoys sleeping on her days off, working on her own artwork which she has recently began selling, and spending time with her husband of two years. They just recently bought a house in Apple Valley and share it with a cat named Seymour. She is excited to be teaching art at Riverside Prep and is looking forward to seeing all the great artwork that will be created.

Ms. Smith is excited to teach band and music here at Riverside Prep. She earned her Bachelors degree in Music Education as well as her single subject teaching credential from California State University, San Bernardino. She has played her trumpet since 5th grade and enjoys every minute of it. When she is not teaching, Ms. Smith enjoys listening to music, learning new recipes, and spending time with her family.

Jennifer Woolley received her B.A. In Psychology from the University of San Diego and her Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix. Mrs. Woolley is in her 6th year of teaching and her 4th year at Riverside Preparatory. She has taught 2nd – 8th grade and has co-lead the Leaders of Tomorrow and the Elementary Yearbook. On her free time, Mrs. Woolley enjoys spending time with her two boys, reading, and outdoor activities.
